Psychonauts 2, for example! Even an aging or budget gaming rig should be able to handle p emulation for most games, no problem. Both are free and legal—none of the code in the emulators themselves belongs to Sony or Nintendo—and have improved enormously over years of development, thanks to passionate communities. The great thing about PCSX2, though, and where it really differs from Dolphin, is that you can easily play your old copies of PlayStation 2 games by simply sticking the discs in your computer.
The rest of the process is pretty simple, honest at least, unless something goes wrong. Download PCSX2 here and follow a configuration guide to set it up. Mostly all you need to know to get started is how to configure the graphics settings and a gamepad.
With a little work, you can play just about anything. And with a little more work, you can make the games better than they were on the original hardware. It becomes part of the fun: you can usually get a game to run without too much trouble, but making it look as good as it can, and run as smoothly as possible, is a satisfying tinkering process. Any problem you encounter you can most likely solve with a simple Google search.
That's the great part thing about emulation communities: they're filled with people dedicated to making these games run. With a little time put into PCSX2, you can render the image at 2x, 3x, 4x its original resolution or higher! And you can take some pretty amazing screenshots.
I'll leave you with a few of my own: screenshots I took of Final Fantasy XII while playing the game earlier this year. What was blurry at i looks pretty damn amazing at 4K. Please deactivate your ad blocker in order to see our subscription offer.

When trying to play Valkyrie Profile 2 the opening cut scenes work flawlessly, but the in game is extremely blurry to the point that the game is not playable. I have made a trace using apitrace showing the issue which has been reported to show the same with nvidia drivers, but it has also been suggested that pcsx2 may or may not be doing something that would result the issue being hardcoded into the trace?

There's no reasonable workaround I can do for this, unless I learn how to convince GH2 I'm really a guitar. Recently, preliminary work was started on PS1 support. It's very customizable, and you don't have to configure it beforehand.
All of the buttons are bound at startup. Most of the video options should be straightforward, with the possible exception of interlacing modes. Many games will run fine with 'None', while others may experience artifacting or jitter.
Another method to get around this is by running GSdx in hardware rendering, doubling the vertical resolution if a game displays x on the emulator window, set vertical res to and selecting bob-tff for interlacing. This can eliminate interlacing artifacts in most cases, although issues with upscaling, as well as using hardware emulation over software, can arise.
Whenever you encounter any kind of bug that isn't graphical in nature, objects going through other objects, untargetable objects that should be targetable or A. Whenever a game has graphical problems such as garbage texture, missing effects, light sources visible through a wall, burn-in or transparent objects being opaque, the easiest fix is generally to switch to software mode either by pressing F9 in-game or via the configuration panel of the GSdx plugin.
If using the DX11 renderer another option is to try the OGL one which is generally more up to date and more accurate. Many games will require you to switch to software mode to fix various issues, albeit at the cost of a significant performance loss.
However, an easily overlooked setting in the graphical plugin configuration panel, extra rendering threads, might help lessen the performance loss if you have a quad-core or higher CPU.
The process described above is partially automated in recent development versions of PCSX2 but you might still need to tweak it to get optimal performance levels. These are recommended specs for using PCSX2. Some games need high-end, possibly overclocked CPUs or powerful GPUswhereas some games run even on weak processors. Now, most of the video options are very straight-forward. However, there is one that probably bears explaining: The interlacing modes.
Now, many games can run fine without interlacing modes.
Why you should play PS2 classics on PC, not PS4
You can just select "None" and everything will be fine. However, some games, such as Gran Turismo 3 and Dark Cloud, will have a "jitter" effect if you don't have interlacing modes enabled. The "Sawtooth" interlacing method is not recommended at all. Artifacting is far too heavy to be usable.
The "Bob" interlacing method has the least artifacts out of all of them, but it can still let some jittering pass through. The "Blend" interlacing method has the least amount of jitter. However, that comes with a pretty hefty side-effect: blurriness. Yes, the Blend interlacer does frame-blending. This is also known, more colloquially, as motion blur. This means that if there is heavy jitter, the video output will be extremely blurry since the two jittering frames will blend together.
Only use this interlacing method as a last resort. Multi-threaded microVU MTVUwhile generally a very useful speed-hack, might sometime cause minor problem like hanging and absence of performance gain or more severe ones like massive performance hits, save-states corruption and crashes to desktop. Crashes could be the results of several things. If the log warns you one or several time about being out of memory or the emulator crashes without warning several times in a row after playing for around the same amount of time you will need to apply a patch to make the executable large address aware, its more commonly referred to as the 4GB patch.
If the log warns you about TLB miss you are either:. If PCSX2 still crashes after doing all of the above, check that you aren't using any speed-hacks and that your system is stable and not overheating especially if you are overclocking. It's either interlacing or a filter in the game itself. For the former, switching the de-interlacing mode with F5 may help, and may cause flicker or screen shaking. For the latter, hacks are required.

The normal gameplay and the combat screens look great, but the cut scenes are terrible, blurry and pixelated for no apparent reason. Also, the text boxes and the information screens have odd white lines all over the place. Is there a fix for this, or is that just par for the course running PS2 emulations? Thanks in advance! Re: Dragon Quest VIII Emulation well, depending on how bad the cutscenes really are, then in terms of graphics there really aren't many settings to toggle. Maybe you could add filtering but as i said you could lose up to 10 fps which isn't worth it.
Your lucky this is your only prob since most people fail to achieve a constant 60 fps or 50 fps for PAL. You say I'm crazy? I say you're talking to a gumnut.
However, there are a lot of lines around text. I'm not sure how to explain that. I'll try posting an image link. The cutscenes are just terrible. Super blurry and pixelated. However, since the actual gameplay seems okay, and there are no sound issues, I'd be happy if I could just fix those text issues. It is an emulation after all.
It is definitely running at full speed. If there's nothing I can do, it's certainly playable. I just thought I'd check to see if there was perhaps something I was missing, like a setting or whatnot. Thanks for the response! Re: Dragon Quest VIII Emulation oh, dont worry about that, to be honest i was expecting it to be nearly unreadable like some games are on pcsx2. Basically your doing everything perfectly and you have nothing to worry about.

If you have, I'll bet the first time you saw one was on the 31st day you've had it, after the Sony day warranty expired.
If you're real lucky, your PS2 might last two or even three years; eventually this error will hunt down your PS2 and settle down there. If it only affects you some of the time?
Since it is out of warranty, there's little risk in opening it up and trying to fix it yourself before paying to send it back to Sony's repair center.
The following guide shows you how to get the PS2 open, clean it out, make your adjustments, and put it back together without any hassles. Before we begin, I'd just like to say that if your PS2 is under warranty, get this taken care of by Sony. It's not worth voiding your warranty if you can survive without it for a week or so.
If your PS2 can't read anything at all, cross your fingers and read on, but you may have a more serious issue than we can fix. Newer models have different heatsinks and even a different chip layout on the motherboard. Some instructions may vary or not apply for other models. My apologies to modem users, but I'm going to throw in a lot of pictures. You'll find plenty of other PS2 repair guides, but most have blurry pictures, pictures taken from across the room, or none at all. My aim is to show you every little part you have to deal with, so there's no confusion.
Remember, spare parts are not your friend! We're only going to need a few tools for this. To my knowledge, there is only a handful of blue games, so if you don't have one there's no need to worry. During the repair of your Playstation 2, we'll be taking the device apart.
